Bragging

After a lifetime of appreciation I finally got to see Billy Bragg the other evening. It was more than worth the wait and has easily dropped into my top five gigs of all time, perhaps even top three, in fact yes, most definitely.

I can’t say I’ve ever been to a more ‘honest’ and ‘real’ event, all delivered from one guy with one guitar, no effects, no backing band, no fancy stage lighting, nothing, just himself, simply superb.
Although enough in themselves you get much more than uniquely crafted powerful songs at a Billy Bragg event, it feels like a stand up show, a political rally, a morale booster and life affirming positive experience all at once, all that and a superb concert at a sensible price (our tickets were £16, cheap in relation to the norm these days). Yes, it was ace and I literally felt like clapping and shouting all the way through for every song (the whole crowd sang anyway), it was one of those personal moments in time which can seem few and far between in the escalatingly oppressed and credit crunched dreary UK (and I’ve been to far too many mediocre over priced gigs). A benchmark of how good a concert was has got to be how hoarse you are the next day, I had a voice like Marlon Brando.

Waiting for the Great Leap Forward.
