Movin to MEBBi

Thursday, August 12, 2010 22:20 No Comments

TooMuchGreen kick started a whole chain of events for me over the past two years and has a huge place in my life, it pulled in clients for me and expanded my personal and professional sides into areas I previously had limited exposure too, let alone forge a career from, however the changes have moved my on-line (and off-line) presence here, there and on to the reformation of MEBBi solutions, and that’s where you’ll find me and the tech-blog these days.

Double Density

I was rifling through my shamefully disparate filing system the the other day and re-discovered some floppy disk imagery I’ve since spent far too much time dicking about with, still, in spite of a wasted (?) Bank Holiday Monday I’m actually quite pleased with the results, so much so I’ve even re-instated my own personal website with them (it) as a dual-purpose single image (page) desktop or iPhone site.

Linux – Get your freedom

Sunday, February 14, 2010 18:55 No Comments

This is the winning entry from last years Linux FoundationWe’re Linux” SuperBowl Ad video contest (the combative tag-line against the “I’m a PC” & “I’m a Mac” individualism)..

The video was created by Amitay Tweeto who lives in Bet Shemesh, Israel. The 25-year old freelance graphic designer and UI consultant entered this contest because he thinks Linux is suffering from bad PR and when people think of Linux they think “technical,” gray stuff for programmers only. Amitay wants to let people get to know the other side of Linux, the flexibility they can get with no technical background. I think he did a good job :-)

Ylmf. A familiar feel

Saturday, February 13, 2010 12:37 2 Comments

Check this out, it’s a Windows XP themed Ubuntu distro from China. Microsoft are “apparently” not going to take any legal action against the producers (Ylmf), although I’ll wager that’s said through clenched teeth :-)

So, what’s the lowdown. Well, Ylmf is built on the latest version of Ubuntu (9.10) and includes all the standard goodies + a few extra niceties to compliment the blend. Here’s a brief run through of the install and a few added shots from the end desktop..

Initial splash, already nicely themed..

TooMuchGreen has officially regressed to it’s former blog status, it likes being a blog and we enjoy blogging through it.

The “business” side of things is now fully re-branded as the wonderful MEBBI™ Solutions.

MEBBI™ Solutions provide all the services previously offered by TooMuchGreen plus a few new additions, why not visit our lovely new website and have a look around..

Sector awareness for the benefits of open source adoption is rapidly growing amongst the forward thinking enterprise. An open source solution provides not only a comprehensive replacement but delivers added security and performance boosts to existing systems whilst offering huge reductions in immediate expenditure and long term cost of ownership.

Open Source UK

Thursday, January 21, 2010 17:34 No Comments

Open Document Format – it’s the way forward, I have no doubts, and neither it seems do the United States..

They have a great website too – http://opensourceforamerica.org/ (I do think they missed a trick though, I’d have gone for “opensourceforus”, much more fun)

Obviously the UK are correspondingly on the ball (!). For information regarding open source in relation to the “Digital Britain” report you’ll need to download the PDF, you’ll find open source mentioned under chapter 8, section 19. However if you can’t be bothered (which of course you can’t, who would) here’s the extensive and inspiring text (yawn) >

Coming on strong

ubuntu-3D

“When business, education, and governments are cost conscious, they move toward Linux. Even in times of economic strength, they want control od their operating systems. Ubuntu Linux saves money. The open source nature of Linux allows organisations to control and customise their operating systems.

If desired, commercial support is available from Canonical. Even with that support Linux saves money, and provides a higher degree of control when compared to Microsoft Windows.

Who’s been sharing YOUR Wi-Fi?

wifi

This weekend I encountered first hand exactly the situation highlighted by TalkTalk in their recent demonstration aimed at the UK Governments naive plan to disconnect persistent on-line file sharers. The problem is that of unsecured home Wi-Fi, and there’s a lot of it about.

IBM opens up

I wasn’t going to post today but as recent article from Linux Pro furnished us with the quite substantial news that IBM have dumped Microsoft Office in favour of their open solution, Lotus Symphony, I obviously felt obliged. Although an understandable tactic for any company to prefer internal use of their own software product the ramifications of this particular strategy reach much further than some in-house back slapping due to the nature of the file format in use.

Cooking Apple

Apple were slated by a few people post the September 9th event for not releasing anything innovative enough. All considered I feel this was a touch harsh but I do realise demand of the gadget hungry innovators from the world of media tech doesn’t get any easier to satisfy so I suppose it was only to be expected.
