Made for each other
Tuesday, September 2, 2008 8:24 No CommentsWhat’s he doing now you say, a photo of some old shoes?
I’d been walking past *a* shoe under the bridge on the way to the subway station for a few days, just one of the things you notice and nothing unusual in New York (or anywhere) really as street trash goes, a discarded shoe is quite a common thing to see lying about (although I’ve never quite got the shoe on the motorway thing – how do you lose one shoe on a motorway?) Anyway, I was quite amused when this one’s other half appeared, nicely arranged as shown side by side, it makes you wonder (well, me anyway)……who could be arsed…..or as per Tom Robbins style (“Skinny Legs and All”) had these inanimates reunited themselves? Maybe ‘left’ was waiting just for ‘right’ to catch up after stopping to look for its lace? Either way they’d both gone few days later.

I had no idea they were hosting a major exhibition by two of my favourite (and personally influential) photographers – Bernd and Hilda Becher, I was almost speechless with excitement when I discovered the gallery and it was for me undoubtedly worth the $20 entry fee just for that exhibition alone, I wouldn’t have dicked about trying to get in for nothing on the free admission Friday sessions had I known (the queue put me off – it was down the street and round the block…!)
